When tony met uni ..!!

When in school I kept wondering y pple struggle to change gear and strain themselves to ride a bike..I kept thinking that gearless bikes are the best and hence preferred my mom's kinetic honda :D But its only after reaching engineering final yr that i felt the necessity of a bike and my dad agreed to buy me a bike. I had no clue which to buy but was sure of not buying a pulsar coz it was the most common bike in town ;) I had narrowed down to unicorn or discover and finalized on uni !

SEPT 3rd 2007 : WHEN TONY MET UNI !!

 

Few days before I bought my uni, abhith bought his pulsar 200 ...and since then we have been trip buddies ..!! Past 3 yrs i have been on my uni to nearly 10 trips which includes nandi hills, balmuri falls, skandagiri, chamundi hills, Devarayana Durga, Ghatisubramanyapura, Maekedaatu, Bheemeshwari, GOA, Melukote ..!!

 Nandi Hills (Sep 2007): My debut bike trip was to Nandi Hills and this was before I crossed 1000kms. I was a bit skeptical coz I had heard that its not good to strain a bike before crossing 1000kms. But I knew my Uni wouldnt mind ;) It was during this trip that I touched 100Km/hr speed for the 1st time and it is after this trip that I developed a craze towards biking. And from then on it was trip after trip !! :)

 Balmuri Falls (Oct 2007): This came in quick succession to the Nandi hills trip. 9 of us and 5 bikes  The falls wasnt that great and we didnt enjoy much but had a nice exp coz this was for the 1st time that I rode my bike 150kms one way :) .                                                                                    

 Skandagiri (March 2008) : 5 guys 4 gals 5 bikes and 4 pillion riders ..! This was the 1st time that I had been for trekking. But more than the trek I was interesting in riding my bike to a place far from the madding crowd :D We went zoomin on the highway ..the highway men kept riding riding riding ..!! :P

Maekedaatu (Sept 2008) : A few days after my Uni's 1st Bday. I had gifted my uni a seat cover and this was the 1st trip after its 1st bday !! this was with abhith and his colony friends. The ride was good and the place was also good so had a nice time. I ges this was the right time to goto Maekedatu coz the climate was good and there was a good crowd too !

Bheemeshwari (Feb 2009) : My maekedaatu trip gang got along and decided to go on another bike trip and this time Bheemeshwari was our destination. White water rafting was our plan but disaster was the outcome :D It was offseason and hence there was no rafting. Nevertheless ride was good and we spent some time in Muthathy which is close to Bheemeshwari.

 Chamundi hills (Feb 2009) : This was a totally unplanned trip. Abhith and SK came home when my parents were out. We planned to go on a night ride to Mysore. I called my mom and gave some bogus reason and off we flew to Mysore :D Night ride was a superb experience coz there was hardly any traffic and the road was all ours ..!! The expressway was so empty that we even parked our bikes at the centre of the road and posed for photos ..!! :D We reached Chamundi hills by bout 3 am, waited for the sunrise and then returned back.

 Ghatisubramanyapura (March 2009) : An unplanned trip with Abhith, SK and Vipin. We met up at Abhiths place and decided to go on a trip to Ghatisubramanyapura. Intention was the ride and not the place ;) I had bought a unicorn jacket few days before the trip and it came handy for the trip :D ..

Chandragiri (May 2009): This was another unplanned trip. Shirshank, banna and me decided to go on a night trek to Skandagiri. Night rides are never disappointing and this night trip was also promising. But we were unaware of the big blunder awaiting us :D…The 3 of us started trekking without a torch. Despite trekking in the dark, shirshank chose to follow the path through the bushes though there was a regular trekking path to reach the hilltop. With great difficulty we reached the hilltop by early morning and then realized that we had lost our way and trekked the hill next to skandagiri :D we named the hill as Banneshwari considering the funny experience we had with Banna there. But later got to know that the hill we trekked is known as Chandragiri ..!!

 Devarayanadurga (July 2008) : My 1st bike trip with my church buddies. Coincidentally for the 3rd time it was 9 of us and 4 bikes but the bikers were different from Skandagiri and Balmuri. A short one day trip was the intention and devarayanadurga was my suggestion. But to our disappointment there was nothing great there. However the route to Devarayanadurga was superb and it was a bikers paradise.

Night rides to CCD's : Few of my unforgettable bike rides were during the night. Abhith SK and me were the bikers !! We used to give our usual bogus reasons at home and speed away to nearby CCD's like Tumkur and Maddur :D...We used to leave home by night and return by early morn. I even went to office straight from Maddur CCD once :D






 

GOA (June 2010) : This was the best bike trip I’ve been to. It was a lengthy one and equally crazy ! 3 of us gave 3 different reasons at home and off we went to Goa on r bikes :D (Detail description would come up in one of my upcoming blogs). Unforgettable it was! Since 2 months Vj abhith and me kept planning for this trip and the best part is that we planned for Ratnagiri and ended up in Goa :D ..Im sure the 3 of us would cherish this trip lifelong. Cheers to our 6 yrs of friendship :)

Melukote & Tannur (June 2010) : My 1st bike trip with 12th buddies ! RD had bought a pulsar and was desperately waiting to cross 1000kms so that he could go on a bike trip. So 4 of us decided to visit Melukote where the song Barso re from Guru was shot. The ride was as usual good and the place was also fine but we couldn’t spot where the song was shot :D ..Melukote was nothing special but Tannur lake saved the show. It was an isolated lake and we had good fun there. The route was perfect for a bike trip !



The journey continues as long as Tony and Uni are UNIted ;)

Yana & Gokarna !

16th July 2010
This was a day that many of us were eagerly waiting for  since 2 weeks ! Few of them were all set for their debut trip (Ex : Mani) and few others were geared up to meet their batchmates whom they havent met since 2 yrs after coll days. Blore buddies gathered at Majestic by 8:30 and boarded the Rajahamsa to Gokarna at 9pm. Andy boarded the bus from Mumbai to Kumta and Sweta boarded the bus from Hyd to Kumta.

17th July 2010

We reached Gokarna by 10 and checked in to Namaste cafe and booked 4 cottages. Namaste Cafe is good from outside but equally bad inside :D . We freshened up by 12 and then rushed to OM beech. It was drizzling and there was a local police guy driving away people from the beech coz the beech looked violent. We had a volleybal and we played beechside games in drizzling rain.

We relived our coll days. It was superb playng beechside football and volleyball. The light rain made it even better !
We also burried Manja in the sand :D

After a long session of photography and beech games we were done for the day and it was undoubtedly the best among my 3 visits to Gokarna.
The next day we had planned to goto Yana but the main concern was the rain ! Mani had read the whether forcast which said that there could be thunderstorms ! But we decided to stick to our plan and went to sleep.

18th July 2010
We booked an open Jeep and started our journed to Yana which was about 40kms from Gokarna.
The whether looked pretty fine and pleasing. The route to Yana was superb and the open jeep travel was a perfect idea.

By the time we reached Yana there were light drizzles. We had heard from many that Yana is known for leeches. We had come prepared with Tiger balms (which was useless) and salt (which is the best way to keep away the leeches). Vehicles were allowed only upto a certain point so we had to trek the remaining distance. Trust me - You would never forget the trek to Yana ! 

On r way there were few rocks which we had seen in movies and google images. They looked better than the pics in google ! Supposedly some Kannada film was shot there.

Prasad and Sweta were victims of the leech attack. Salt was our weapon ! After about 1 hr of trek, we reached our destination and it was mind blowing ! The view couldnt get better and the climate and atmosphere there was perfect ! There was a temple on top and we were supposed to walk barefoot around the temple through the caves.

Leeches were a concern but thankfully the Yana gods kept them away during the barefoot prathakshina :)

For some strange reason, this trek somehow reminded me of "Lord of the rings" and "Mackennas Gold" :D

This was undoubtedly one of the best trips I've been to. Though it was off season we felt everything was PERFECT probably coz the crowd was perfect ;) Few of them couldnt make it due to personal reasons and they definetly missed out on a memorable trip worth cherishing lifelong :)

Gokarna is probably the only beech that I have visited multiple times !! What I mentioned above was my 3rd visit to Gokarna !! My 1st visit to Gokarna was with Alex, Jins, Lindo, Abhith and Kunal.

Feb 2009 : Many of them from my church decided to go on a trip and the destination was left to me to decide. Gokarna was my choice !! Though all were interested initially, many of them backed out eventually !! But I had made up my mind that I'll goto gokarna at any cost coz I was quite impressed by the google images. Finally 6 of us decided to go out of which Abhith and Kunal chose to come by bike !! Alex, Jins, Lindo and myself went by some Rajahamsa and reached Gokarna early morn.

OM Beech : We headed straight to OM beech which was the star attraction of Gokarna. To our disappointment, none of the beech shacks were ready to provide us accommodation coz we were not foreigners :P. We spent some time in OM beech, played in the water and had lunch at the beech shacks (Glad they were ready to provide food !! :D). By afternoon, Abhith and Kunal reached OM beech after roaming around Kollur, Mookambika, Kodachadri and many other places (they lost their way and landed there by mistake). We noticed that not many Indians were there in OM beech. It was more like we were foreigners in our own land !!

There was a boat ride that took us to few other nearby beeches and I must say that the boat ride was a bit scary. Waves were violent and it looked like they were pouncing on us to attack !!

Paradise beech and Half moon beech : These were 2 beeches that we covered during the boat ride. Supposedly, an australian lady was raped on one of these island a week before we went there and so Indians werent allowed on these beeches. We just got to see the beech from the boat.

Kudle beech : After paradise and Half moon, it was time to move on to the next beech - Kudle beech. After OM, it is Kudle that is popular in Gokarna. It lies adjascent to OM. Here we found lot many Indians compared to OM. But we preferred OM coz it was unique in its own way. We were allowed to spend just 15 mins in Kudle coz our boatman was waiting.

By the time we returned to OM beech it was about 7pm and it was getting dark. We did some night trek to a nearby rock to add some adventure ! During the day this rock looked pretty easy to climb but at night it wasnt that easy. After we were done for the day, we relaxed for sometime at one of the beech shafts and then returned to Gokarna town where we had booked a lodge.

The next day, Abhith and Kunal decided to goto Goa since they had come by bike. They left early in the morning and the rest of us visited the Gokarna beech and a nearby temple. Gokarna beech was a bit too violent and risky to play in. We decided not to take chances and hence spent time along the shore of the beech. Our return bus was in the eve and hence we had lot of time to spend in Gokarna beech. By even we boarded the bus and reached Bangalore the next day early in the morn.

August 2009 : My 2nd visit to Gokarna was with my Wipro gang - Rakri, Murali, Vikku, Sasi, Kanna and Chintu. We had planned to visit Dandeli which was supposedly the best tourist spot in Karnataka popular for its water adventure spots. We had to change buses to reach Dandeli. When we were just 50kms away from Dandeli we got to know from the localites that it was off season in Dandeli and that there was nothing much that we could do at this point of time. So we had to make quick change in plans. One of the taxi drivers told us that there is a superb beech nearby which we would enjoy for sure. We decided that it would be the most optimum plan and hence got into the Ambassador. 8 of us in an ambassador - it was jam packed but we had no other go. On our way we got to know that the beech which the taxi driver mentioned was OM beech. So I was back to OM beech again which I had visited 6 months back.

We straight away headed to OM beech and all of us were terribly hungry. With my past experience in OM beech I knew that there were several beech shacks along OM beech. But to our disappointment it was off season in Gokarna and none of the shacks were open. The beech was desserted !! We didnt even see the boatman who took us to the other beeches. We returned to Gokarna town, booked a lodge, freshened up and then returned to OM beech. We played in the water for a while and then returned to our lodge by late evening.

The next day we freshened up, booked our return tickets to Bangalore and spent the rest of the day in Gokarna beech. I was recollecting my prev trip to Gokarna while sitting along the shores of Gokarna beech.

An advice to all those who are planning to visit Gokarna - The best time would be Dec to March. Pls do not go there during off season time coz you would be disappointed !! :)
